The “Newbridge Circuit” – our powerful protocol that sets the body up for recovery from chronic illness

Functional medicine is leading the charge in chronic illness recovery, continually innovating therapies and researching new methods to harness the body’s natural healing abilities. At Newbridge Health & Wellness, we are dedicated to this progressive approach. Our mission is to achieve true recovery for our patients, moving beyond mere symptom management. To this end, we’ve developed the Newbridge Circuit, a unique treatment protocol designed specifically for individuals with chronic and complex conditions. This comprehensive strategy combines multiple therapies which can be accessed in one space, consecutively, and within a consolidated timeframe, offering a focused approach to enhancing key physiological functions essential for recovery. In this blog post, we will outline the Newbridge Circuit, explaining each step, and the physiological mechanisms that each activates to promote healing within the body.

What are the therapies that can aid in recovery from chronic illness?

The Newbridge Circuit uses ten primary therapies which include: Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF), Red Light Therapy, Inhaled Hydrogen, Vibration Therapy, mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT), Exercise with Oxygen Therapy (EWOT), Infrared Sauna, Ozone Sauna, IonCleanse Footbath, and Personal Training. These are therapies that many of our new patients – especially those who are already engaged in functional medicine – have tried in the past one at a time or only a period basis.

For many patients, incorporating the Circuit protocol in full (i.e., several or all of the therapies) into their care plan represents a crucial “Step One” on their path to health. Unlike isolated treatments, our comprehensive circuit offers access to a fully integrated approach, with therapies available together, so patients can complete intervals with several to all of the therapies during each visit, and return for more sessions over weeks and months.

1. Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy:

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy – aka “PEMF” – harnesses the power of electromagnetic fields to improve cellular function and promote healing. It delivers low-frequency, electromagnetic fields to cells, stimulating repair, reducing inflammation and enhancing circulation to create an optimal environment for recovery. PEMF therapy is administered by simply having a patient sit in a chair on a comfortable PEMF mat. This is a painless, non-invasive therapy and is most often described as relaxing by patients.

2. Near Infrared and Red Light Therapy:

Near infrared and red light are non-invasive therapies that utilize specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity, which aids in reducing inflammation, enhancing mitochondrial function, and promoting tissue repair— crucial components for individuals navigating chronic illness. Most common forms are delivered through handheld lights or desktop-sized panels, and may or may not make contact with the skin depending on the purpose of the therapy.

3. Inhaled Hydrogen:

Hydrogen, as the smallest and lightest molecule, can easily penetrate cell membranes and reach cellular components, including the mitochondria and nucleus. In the use of chronic illness, molecular hydrogen offers the body antioxidant properties that help reduce oxidative stress, suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokine production, cellular energy regulation, neuroprotective effects, and positive effects on cardiovascular health, including blood pressure regulation and lipid metabolism. Patients inhale H2 through a nasal cannula. It is odorless and flows gently, allowing the patient to simply breathe regularly with ease and comfort.

4. Vibration Therapy:

Whole-body vibration therapy uses mechanical vibrations to stimulate muscles and bones. This therapy improves circulation and nutrient distribution, enhances muscle/bone strength, and supports detoxification processes—a holistic strategy to prepare the body for the recovery journey. To complete vibration therapy, a patient stands on a vibration plate for anywhere between 5-20 minutes, depending upon the patient’s treatment program. The vibration is noticeable, but subtle, and there are handlebars to hold onto for those who need help with balancing. Even just 5 minutes of vibration therapy can make a noticeable difference!

5. Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT):

Newbridge utilizes a Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) chamber to aid in chronic illness recovery. A patient enters the chamber, awaits an increase in the air pressure, and remains in the chamber for a specified amount of time so that they can breathe in the supplied oxygen. By breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or chamber – compared to oxygen in the open air – an individual can experience increased oxygen levels in the blood, promoting tissue healing and reducing inflammation—a targeted approach to addressing various chronic conditions, as well as infections and bacteria, which are often at the root of illness.

6. Exercise with Oxygen Therapy (EWOT):

Exercise with Oxygen Therapy (“EWOT”) is another form of oxygen therapy that has similar effects on the body to HBOT. EWOT involves combining exercise with higher concentrations of oxygen, putting more oxygen into tissues and cells. This form of therapy is administered while a patient rides a stationary bike and breathes in oxygen through a special mask. They benefit both from the pure oxygen and the cardiovascular workout.

7. Infrared or Ozone Sauna:

In Newbridge’s comprehensive circuit approach, far infrared sauna or ozone sauna therapy plays a significant role.

Far Infrared Sauna: With infrared sauna, infrared light heats the body directly, promoting detoxification and relaxation— valuable processes for decreasing chronic pain, inflammation, and stress-related conditions.

Ozone Sauna:  An ozone sauna is not your typical sauna – there are no hot coals, just infrared lights that create safe-for-the-body heat. It interacts with the double bonds found in cells to form what is called peroxides/ozonides, which penetrates cell membranes and oxidates intracellular structures. The end result is increased oxygen utilization – a powerful healing process for chronic illnesses, inflammation, and infections.

Our infrared and ozone saunas accommodate one person, so each patient experiences these therapies in privacy, and in a quiet space, unlike a sauna room that typically holds 5-10 people at once.

8. IonCleanse Foot Bath

An IonCleanse Foot bath pulls toxins from your body through your feet. The foot bath machine ionizes the water, which gives the hydrogen in the water a positive charge. The charge attracts the negatively charged toxins in the body. These negatively charged toxins and heavy metals bind to the positively charged hydrogen in the water, detoxing it from the body.

The foot bath can help with excretion of toxins, such as glyphosate, urea, glucose, and more, along with heavy metals, such as aluminum, creatinine, lead, and more.

9. Personal Training

We offer Personal Training so that our patients can focus on individualized fitness. Sessions last 30 minutes and are efficient, effective, and full of purpose. Our Certified Personal Trainer, Amy Irving, MS, designs plans that are tailored, specific, and personalized to work with whatever limitations or health barriers one may face, and also with a focus on a client’s strengths. She focuses on incorporating mobility, balance, and stability into every session, as well as prioritizing strength from the ground up. This means creating strength by using your body as the resistance, moving through every exercise with control, and turning your body into a machine, rather than depending on one.

Our Goal: Total Healing

Newbridge wants you to heal, and the integration of these various treatment modalities creates a powerful synergy for preparing the body to recover from chronic illness. Each modality offers unique benefits, and their combination addresses various aspects of the body’s functions, unlike many conventional approaches, which often simply focus on a singular system, organ, or issue in the body.
